ABOUT Miranda

I'm what statisticians call an outlier. That dot on a bell curve that sits far away from all the other dots; the anomaly; the thing that causes lots of distortions and makes a mockery of numbers.

At 49, I shouldn't have had Ewing's Sarcoma - a childhood disease! But I did. My femur was removed and replaced with a titanium rod. I completed 11 rounds of the harshest chemo treatment along with many blood transfusions, a terrifying trip in the back of ambulances and various hospital incarcerations. I finished treatment in June 2015.

It changed our lives. One day I left home and never returned. The house we renovated and loved for 14 years was sold, because we had to move to London for my treatment. For two years I haven't worked; but when I was well enough, I wrote. And during the past five months I have completed a novel, very loosely based on my experiences.

Today life is very different. I live with pain but it's ok because it could be so very much worse. I have the use of my leg; I feel well; I am alive. For that I am eternally grateful to so many people: the medical teams who made me well; my amazing family; my supportive friends; the mentors, coaches and healers who have helped me transform.

This blog helped me during some bleak months. Writing was an invaluable therapy. Before this journey I was lucky enough to have been a published author of two books, wrote numerous articles that were published in consumer and business press and so many press releases, marketing content and business plans it makes my head spin. But now the writing is all for pleasure - novels that allow the creative juices to flow and this blog where I can indulge in articulating random thoughts.

Thank you for reading!

Home was the Peak District, then London for a year where I was treated and now it's Sussex. But my heart lies in the mountains. I wrote, 'when this journey is complete I will fulfill that dream and live in a chalet'. I'm working on it!

I also wrote that, 'my daughter will be  studying in Boston and my long-suffering husband will be sailing around the world.' That has happened. She is into her second year in Boston, and he has gained his Yacht Master certificate.
